FRC 2212, The Spikes
From Lod, Israel
The Spikes make STEM content accessible in our native language, empower women in STEM, mentor FTC, FLL, and FLL Jr. teams, and much more! We're always happy to take on new projects and branch out.
The Spikes #2212 are one of the veteran teams in Israel. We are known for our community work and our team spirit. Over the years we have taken initiative and created many outreach programs.
Learning Center- The Learning Center is a community project made for Elementary students to receive help with their homework, their studying, and take part in enrichment activities. As of 2019, more than 80 children attend twice a week!
LIGHT- The LIGHT Conference for Women Empowerment in Science and Technology is meant to make a change! The conference was founded two years ago by a team member, who wished to inspire teenage girls (and boys) to actively participate in the fields of STEM and to show them through their own personal achievements that it can be done. This year, we prepared a poster exhibit of lesser-known historical women who have worked in the fields of STEM. Their stories of perseverance and dedication were an inspiration to all who were there. The Spikes are happy to have the chance to spread the importance of STEM among women and to make a change. We aspire to inspire!
Spikes Tykes- In 2013 the Spikes Tykes project was created to help children with physical therapy treatments that are often painful and dull. Programming and designing games for the children using the Xbox Kinect camera makes the kids focus on the game rather than on their pain. In 2018, we expanded our use of Spikes Tykes by helping kids with behavioral problems as a form of self-control.
Contributions for Solutions- Due to budget cuts, teams in Israel had to find creative ways to overcome the financial gap. We decided to take matters into our own hands and share the issue on a global scale. We asked US FRC teams about their fundraising ideas, added our own, and wrote out Contributions for Solutions booklet helping other teams with their fundraising.
