FTC 2818, G-FORCE
From Mc Henry, MD, United States
G-FORCE is a 10 year FTC team based in Accident MD.
The G-FORCE FRC team is located in the mountains of rural Western Maryland, and is an outgrowth of the 12 year NeXT GEN FLL team. Every year NeXT GEN feeds graduating Middle Schoolers into the G-FORCE team, to be joined by other youth from nearby MD and PA.
Since G-FORCE is co-sponsored by 4-H, there is a strong commitment to community and outreach. Over the years, G-FORCE has worked with Local, State and National 4-H to promote adopting robotics as a 4-H club activity.
Each year, G-FORCE creates a small scale FLL style challenge for Maryland 4-H juniors to compete in. This 4-H LEGO Challenge is a scaled down version of the more intimidating FIRST LEGO League completion. This enables 4-H club leaders to become familiar with robotics competitions, but within a structure they are already familiar with. Once successful, then they are encouraged to try FLL, FTC.
Through its partnership with GEARS (Garrett Engineering and Robotics Society) G-FORCE has become the “force” behind the SuGO (Sumo wrestling LEGO robots) program. Recently, G-FORCE worked with the University of Maryland to purchase, configure, kit-up and distribute SuGO competition sets to 51 US Air Force Youth Centers around the globe. G-FORCE also hosted training webinars that were viewed globally.
